Underwear material and fit development

Material choices that work in the garment.

A fibre name does not fix the feel or fit of an underwear range. Review the fabric, gusset, waistband and edge construction in the garment they will become.

Material and collection development
01

Describe the material beyond its name.

DALI’s material portfolio includes cotton, modal, bamboo-derived fibres, nylon, polyester and stretch blends. Specify the actual blend, knitted construction, finished weight, stretch directions and surface feel required for the style.

Separate the body fabric, gusset and trims. The same collection may need different material solutions for briefs, bralettes and men’s longer-leg shapes. A swatch or reference garment helps establish the intended result.

02

Use a controlled fit reference.

Provide the base size, points of measurement, tolerances and required size range. Define how waist and leg openings are measured and identify rise, coverage and seam placement. Fit comments should refer to an identified sample version.

Check the garment after the relevant agreed evaluations, not only on first appearance. Agree how dimensional change, elastic recovery and colour performance will be evaluated, using methods and acceptance criteria appropriate to the intended garment.

03

Carry material decisions across the range.

Maintain a material reference for the collection and note any style-specific differences. Organic or recycled content claims need the selected material and applicable supply-chain documents, not only a certification name on a website.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Before the next step.

Is bamboo-derived fabric automatically antibacterial?

No such performance claim is assumed. Confirm the actual fibre identity and any specific performance requirement with supporting evidence for the chosen material.

Can a collection use cotton and modal options?

The alternatives can be reviewed within one assortment, with the actual blends, construction, fit and quantities defined separately.
